Phuket islands
Phuket islands are as varied as Phuket itself. Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, has dozens of smaller islands nearby that are worth visiting. Some islands around Phuket are developed with resorts and facilities, while others have just a simple sandy beach or two. Many of Phuket’s nearby islands are within easy travelling distance; many suitable for both day trips and overnight stays. The Thai for island is koh.
Most Phuket islands are off the south and east coasts of the island, with the exception of the Similan Islands which are about 120 km northwest of Phuket. We have divided the islands off Phuket into three other areas and offer a few koh destination suggestions for PhuketSpace customers, plus a clickable map further down:
Phang Nga Bay
This consists of Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai in the centre of Phang Nga Bay, plus James Bond island just off the coast of Phang Nga province. Also included are Koh Naka Yai and Koh Naka Noi.
Eastern Islands
This covers a wide area, from Koh Sirey which is almost part of the island of Phuket given that it’s accessible via a short bridge, plus Koh Maprow (Coconut Island), just ten minutes off Phuket’s coast. Koh Kai Nok and Koh Dok Mai are a little further away, then the Phi Phi islands which are about two hours away.
Southern Islands
Just a few minutes from Rawai is Koh Bon, and Koh Lon in the middle of Chalong Bay. Coral Island is a bit further out, and further south are Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi.
